2015 Fine Art Wedding Workshop - Gauteng / 27-28 July
I am pleased to announce that my second workshop will be held again in Pretoria over 27-28 July. It’s going to packed with my take on fine art wedding photography, interactive sessions, and practical shoots with live models. All catering is included.
It’s been an incredible ride for me as a photographer and I’m hoping I can share some things with you that’ll inspire and help you along in your personal journey. Here are some of the things we’ll cover: marketing, branding, business philosophy, targeting ideal clients, workflow, posing, shooting, lighting, post production, client interaction, staying inspired... and a surprise topic that I'll announce to the workshop attendees!

Wedding Workshop - Cornwall Hill, Irene July 2014
My very first workshop was held at the beautiful Cornwall Hill Estate in Irene, near Centurion. It was held over 2 days, and we had a phenomenal time. My guests arrived with varying levels of wedding experience & with their own distinct styles, which is what made it so exciting. The central idea behind the workshop was to share my experiences as a "start-from-scratch" photographer in an already competitive and relatively saturated field. We all have our dreams and passions in life, but don't often have the skill sets or the courage to step out and "make it happen". I hoped to define a pathway of both technical and artistic prowess that would jumpstart their success in the industry. I shared about the key moments in my journey, especially those that made the difference between success and failure.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing... that other people usually benefit from!
We did a ton of Q&A, with practicals on bridal portraits and detail shots. It was a delight to showcase our uber professional models and service providers, who all made it a memorable experience.
The focus of the session on day 1 was on branding your business. If you "spray and pray", then you're likely to pick up some business, but not necessarily the "right" business that will take your vision to the next level. Forming your own, distinctive brand & finding your own "comfort zone" in terms of your market are both crucial to establishing a sustainable business. Kinda like heading off on a journey, but you have no idea where you are going.. or even why you are going.
Day 2 was focused more on the actual technicalities of wedding day shooting, with tons of tech talk, and troubleshooting discussions. Both days showcased beautifully crafted wedding decor and professional models, dressed in bespoke gowns - all provided by an awesome group of real life wedding suppliers. I shared my simple "de-mystifying" techniques, showing that less, when well done, is actually more. We ended it off with a general Q&A session, followed by a fun group dinner where we probably covered more material in one sitting than during the entire workshop!
